PEER ADVOCACY TRAINING

Advocacy skills are the key to unlocking the leadership potential in all of us.

For many people who have been through the mental health system keys have held a certain significance. We are now taking hold of a key of our own.

M-POWER of Massachusetts is part of a federal grant project to provide people in the mental health system with a different kind of key. This is a key that unlocks doors. M-POWER is now providing a Leadership and Advocacy training course based on a program in Connecticut by Advocacy Unlimited. This course is designed and delivered by consumer/survivor/expatients with years of experience in the field. M-POWER of Massachusetts is ready to offer this knowledge to interested and qualified people.

If you think you are one of these people, please fill out an application and you will be scheduled for an interview. Call M-POWER for an application and ask any questions you have. We would love to hear from you!

DO YOU THINK YOU'RE READY?

This leadership and advocacy course is challenging and dynamic. A lot will be asked of you and you will get a lot in return. You will learn public speaking skills and how to talk to people one-on-one. You will learn assertiveness and the usefullness of subtlety. You will have homework for each class. You will have an internship after graduation where you will be able to apply your new skills. Most importantly, you will get to know people from all over the state who have the same moving force as you....to work for a world where we can achieve our dreams.

UNITY ACROSS MASSACHUSETTS

It is true that there is strength in numbers. When people across Massachusetts gain advocacy and leadership skills we all become stronger. When we work with each other we can be heard in ways that are unmistakable. We have many common problems that we will be able to solve when we work on them together. The Leadership Training Academy will help people learn the skills necessary to create and sustain a strong network.

THIS MAY BE YOUR NEXT MOVE....

If you are many other people who have been involved in the mental health system you have amassed a great deal of knowledge and experience. Many of us would like to turn around and give back our time and experience to help fellow travelers and make the mental health system a better place. Perhaps you are one of those people, but you are wondering just how to go about it.

M-POWER of Massachusetts is now offering Leadership and Advocacy training. This course involves:

Seventeen classes, one day per week

Six months volunteer internship

Volunteer stipend of $50 per month

Regular meetings and support with fellow advocates

Opportunity to create positive change
